statement
Natalie Breitkopf (lives and works in New York, NY) is a conceptual artist focusing on themes relating to perspective, history, and natural and built environments. A trained painter, Breitkopf’s painting practice has evolved from portraiture towards the abstract, anchoring her work in historical research and presenting it in natural and free-flowing forms.
Breitkopf strives to expand the public expression of a fuller, more vibrant telling of histories and lived experiences. She created her fundamental research project, When the Levee Breaks, where she worked with archivists, cultural historians, and descendants of Rock N Roll hall-of-famers on the grassroots search for the unmarked graves of their descendants across the Mississippi Delta. An Editor-at-Large with a monthly column within the Artists + Machine Intelligence research program at Google, she contributed to assorted magazines, films, newsletters, and an exhibition at the ICP on digital culture and emergent technologies.
